instruction and inspiration
[After releasing myself so recently to write here about non-photographic subjects, today, I'm back in the realm of the photographic - weird that isn't it.]
Two years ago I attended a Portrait Photography short course at Central St. Martins, part of the University of the Arts London. Just walking through the doors of St. Martins is an inspiring experience. With alumni as varied as John Galliano, Alexander McQueen, Eduardo Paolozzi, and Brian Duffy it's difficult not to be inspired and maybe a little intimidated.
I love the experience of working and creating, as part of a team. Since finishing that course I've been looking forward to having the opportunity to return. As I've said before I'm currently feeling less than inspired photographically and so this seemed the ideal time to return to St. Martins. If that can't give me the injection of inspiration I need then nothing will.
The course I'll be attending, starting in October, is titled Photography, Art and Architecture. This is a long way from Portrait Photography, but I've always been interested in architecture and this course will hopefully give me the impetus get out and learn a little more about the craft of architectural photography as well as giving me the creative kick start I need. I'll let you know how I get on.
If you ever get the opportunity to go to St. Martins make sure you check out the library. I made the mistake of not doing so until near the end of the course. Unfortunately it's only open to students, however it is a real treat, they have the most amazing selection of every art, design, fashion, photography book and magazine your heart could desire.
