Print Edition - Issue Two: The Lost Pubs

The second print edition of The Gravesend Journal is now available from our store for £4.50, including UK postage. Thank you to everyone who bought the first edition. It was great to launch, but as I may have said I wan’t entirely happy with the print quality. I’ve done a lot of research since (and printed quite a few dummy copies) and I’m pleased to say Issue two looks a lot better.

In 2000, there were 67 pubs in Gravesend; at one time, there had been many more. Today, just 31 are still trading. As I write, the latest to close is The Peacock, which served its last pint on 1st January this year.

The second edition of The Gravesend Journal documents some of those pubs and features an interview with John Warden from Gravesend’s first micro-pub, The Compass Alehouse – is this the future for the pub?

To make it as widely available as possible, print editions are sold for £4.50, including UK postage.

I’m keen to cover any important local story. Please get in touch if you have a story to share or a subject that needs highlighting.
